Mother Corona (David Micheal Oglesby) (UK)

As said on their Facebook profile, Mother Corona music is "a melting pot of Heavy- Distorded- Sludged out raw Grooves, Melodic Psychedelia and Spaced out Landscapes". And guess what ? Even if at that time I didn't know anything about this band, I already knew what it was all about just by looking at the poster Intergalactic did for them ! With such a stunning artwork and good taste from the band, I am glad to say that Mother Corona well deserved to be the opening band for this new section of the blog: Band members speaking about poster art !

Hello, of course as every Crewk interview, first question: what are we listening to when we come to visit you?

   Tripped out heavy acid rock!!

Can you tell us more about yourself, who are you, where are you from, what do you do?

I come form a small town called didcot in the middle of nowhere, Its in oxfordshire and is pretty boring and isolated,  im 26 years old and play drums and sing in a band called Mother Corona, Ive been playing music since i was about 9 or 10 years old and is a huge part of my life, i do have a regular day job but would really like to do the band full time!! but you never know......its all for the love of art anyway!

I knew you thanx to the work Intergalactic Graphics Rock Posters did for you, have you already collaborate with other artists ?

In terms of gig posters no.

Is it you, or a promoter, who decide which artist you are going to work with on a particular event ?

It really depends on who is running it, say for instance the work intergalatic did for us was something i chose because i really like his work and it was our album launch show so we got to pick who did the art work

How do you (do they) choose the artist you are going to work with on a particular event ?

It really stems down to who's up for doing it, i know a few artists now cause we have been playing shows with alot of these guys in the last 3 or 4 years and they are also in bands! like our buddy chris benoist from desert storm did our album art work.

What is the most important for you when you ask for a poster ?

Style!!! its got to have a certain vibe that complements the music, thing is with mother corona is that we are a heavy band but we also got alot of groove and melody in our music which you could probably shake your ass too, so i asked intergalactic to make us a more sexy poster rather than your typical blood and guts metal flyers! plus it has a cool 60s biker movie vibe to it! and has that old gig poster style like when you used to see hendrix or cream in the late 60s playing the filmore

Are you a collector yourself ?

Im an avid collector of vinyl and my favorite covers have been done by the legendary gig poster guru Frank kozik who used to run mans ruin records, and i have a few of his posters he did for gigs for kyuss and the melvins. I really do want to collect more tho, i must admit i love gig posters!!

What is your top 5 artists and top 5 posters ever ?

Shit thats a tough one!! you have put me on the spot!!!! hahaha!!! i dunno, the other day i saw a poster for the led zeppelin album houses of the holy! and it was a picture of some guys head exploding and the slogon said "the effect is shattering or something  hahahahahaha!!! frank kozik is up there for sure and my boy from intergalactic is a super bad ass!!!

Apart from Kozik, is there another artist you would like to work with for posters ?

hmmmmmm
Emek maybe!! he did mars volta stuff i think
Mike Klay good too, he did a Fu Manchu pic which was killer.
A bit of self-promotion, take advantage of it, it's free, where can we find you on the web, what are you working on at the moment?

check out mother corona on facebook, we have all sorts of shit on there tunes from our first ep released 2 years ago and pics and all  that shit! myspace aswell, we are just about to release our debut album "out of the dust" on our own record label button mushroom and we will support its realease by doing gigs up and down the country this will hopefully be a big step for us in kicking down some doors and making people take notice! cause we ain't like most bands out there at this moment in time, we are a real band with something to say! wether people like it or not it don't matter cause you have to do it because its your passion and art and it keeps you saine from all the day to day bullshit of life in general so lets get it on!!!

What can we wish you for the future?

TUNE DOWN, TURN UP, TRIP OUT!!!!

Thanks for answering my questions and see you soon on the website !!

No worries!
